galacturonic acid

Galacturonic acid, also known as D-galacturonate or sodium pectate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as glucuronic acid derivatives. Glucuronic acid derivatives are compounds containing a glucuronic acid moiety (or a derivative), which consists of a glucose moiety with the C6 position oxidized to a carboxylic acid. Galacturonic acid exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. Galacturonic acid has been found in higher concentrations in flaxseeds. It has also been detected but not quantified in several different foods, such as common grapes, cocoa beans, roselles, milk (cow), and figs. Galacturonic acid has also been found in Cannabis sativa (PMID: 6991645).
