Apigenin 7,4'-dimethyl ether

5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4H-chromen-4-one, also known as apigenin dimethylether or 4',7-dimethylapigenin, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 7-o-methylated flavonoids. These are flavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C7 atom of the flavonoid backbone. Thus, 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4H-chromen-4-one is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4H-chromen-4-one is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4H-chromen-4-one has been detected, but not quantified in, common sages and sweet basils. This could make 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4H-chromen-4-one a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. A dimethoxyflavone that is the 7,4'-dimethyl ether derivative of apigenin. Apigenin 7,4'-dimethyl ether is expected to be in Cannabis as all living plants are known to produce and metabolize it.
