Resveratrol
Resveratrol, also known as trans-resveratrol or SRT 501, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as stilbenes. These are organic compounds containing a 1,2-diphenylethylene moiety. Stilbenes (C6-C2-C6 ) are derived from the common phenylpropene (C6-C3) skeleton building block. The introduction of one or more hydroxyl groups to a phenyl ring lead to stilbenoids. Thus, resveratrol is considered to be an aromatic polyketide lipid molecule. Resveratrol is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Resveratrol exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. Outside of the human body, Resveratrol is found, on average, in the highest concentration within red wines. Resveratrol has also been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as purple mangosteens, sugar apples, chinese mustards, roselles, and pomegranates. This could make resveratrol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. A resveratrol in which the double bond has E configuration. Resveratrol is expected to be in Cannabis as all living plants are known to produce and metabolize it.
